Girls star Lena Dunham has welcomed a baby girl with her husband Luis Felber, both of them 40, revealing the birth of their first child via an op-ed in Vogue

Lena Dunham, star of Girls, has welcomed her first child to the world. Lena, 40, shares her daughter with husband Luis Felber, also 40.

The baby girl was born via surrogate and her birth was announced via an op-ed in Vogue. In the op-ed, Lena revealed that her daughter came 13 days later than expected. She added that her first words to the baby were: \"I’m your mama. You…you look nothing like I thought you would, but exactly right. We’ve been waiting for you, do you know that? It was so nice of you to come.”

The news comes eight years after Lena, who has struggled with endometriosis, had a hysterectomy. Endometriosis is a long term condition where cells similar to the womb lining grow in other parts of the body, causing severe pain.

Speaking about her hysterectomy on Today with Jenna and Sheinelle, the actress said: “It’s interesting because the framing is that you make a choice to do this, but if you’re in pain 24 hours a day, it isn’t really a choice because no one can live like that.”

In July of 2025, Lena announced via an interview with The Times that she was planning on growing her family with Luis, her husband since 2021.
