Accounts of the incident agree that emergency services recovered a woman from the sea off Llandudno, while placing different emphasis on the setting and the broader issue of water safety.

A major response involving the coastguard, police and RNLI crews was launched after an alarm was raised near Gogarth Bay. The woman’s body was subsequently brought ashore at Conwy Lifeboat Station.

One report said the alarm was raised at about 10.30am on 26 August, drawing police, coastguard and RNLI teams to the West Shore side of the Great Orme. It reported that officers established a cordon at the lifeboat station after the recovery, while also using the incident to highlight calls for stronger water-safety measures.¹

The other account similarly described a response after reports of a body in the water, identifying Gogarth Bay as a well-known climbing area. Its focus remained on the location and the rescue operation rather than wider policy concerns.²

Both reports quoted Conwy RNLI as saying its D-class inshore lifeboat launched at 10.45am and that “a casualty was recovered from the water by the volunteer crew and transferred to Conwy Lifeboat Station.”¹ HM Coastguard said it deployed “an HM Coastguard helicopter, a Coastguard Rescue Team, and an RNLI lifeboat” to an incident reported at Gogarth Bay at about 10.40am.²

Neither account provided the woman’s identity, cause of death, or further details about the circumstances leading to the emergency. Their shared account establishes the sequence of the response; their difference lies chiefly in whether the recovery is framed as an isolated incident at a notable coastal site or as part of a wider water-safety debate.
