Liverpool Close In on £123m Barcola Deal as Attack Plans Shift

Liverpool are reported to have agreed a £123m package for PSG winger Bradley Barcola, with a medical expected soon. The move is seen as a major attacking addition, though reports differ on how much it could affect Cody Gakpo’s future.

Liverpool’s reported move for Bradley Barcola is being framed as both a statement signing and a practical answer to concerns over creativity, while the immediate implications for Cody Gakpo remain less clear.

With the transfer window nearing its end, Liverpool appear close to landing one of their main targets from Paris Saint-Germain. The deal would rank among the club’s biggest-ever investments, but it still depends on Barcola completing a medical.

Reports on the left describe an agreement worth up to £123m, comprising £106m guaranteed and £17m in performance-related add-ons. Barcola, 23, has already agreed personal terms and is expected to undergo a medical before finalising the move to Anfield. One account says Liverpool reached the outline agreement after “lengthy talks over their main summer transfer target.”

That perspective also presents the France international as an answer to Liverpool’s attacking needs after a 2-2 opening Premier League draw at Newcastle. Barcola scored 11 Ligue 1 goals last season, according to a separate report, which says PSG’s original valuation had been around £145m before Liverpool secured a lower price.

The competing emphasis is on squad consequences rather than the fee. A right-leaning transfer roundup reports that Barcola’s preferred role is on the left, but argues the signing may not automatically force Gakpo out: the Netherlands forward was used on the right against Nottingham Forest and remained part of Andoni Iraola’s plans.

Both accounts agree that the transfer is close rather than complete. The main contrast is whether Barcola’s arrival signals a direct reshaping of Liverpool’s forward line or simply adds another high-level option before the deadline.
