Most reports agree the proposed fee reflects Liverpool’s search for attacking reinforcements after Mohamed Salah’s departure.

The central question is no longer whether Liverpool want the 23-year-old France international, but whether an agreement in principle can be converted into a completed transfer before the deadline. The reported package would rank among the club’s largest-ever deals.

BBC Sport says negotiations accelerated over the previous 48 hours and that a full agreement was “now close,” with Liverpool poised to pay at least £100m and up to £120m through performance-related add-ons.¹ The Guardian similarly reports that the clubs reached an outline compromise after PSG lowered a valuation previously set at £145m, but adds an important qualification: “sources insist it is not done yet.”²

By contrast, several right-leaning transfer reports treat the breakthrough as effectively decisive. One says Liverpool and PSG have agreed in principle on a £120m deal, comprising a £100m fixed fee and £20m in add-ons, while framing Barcola as the club’s first-choice target after Salah’s exit.³ Another reports that sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon are still settling “crucial final details,” and says nothing has yet been formally signed.⁴

The accounts also differ in what Barcola’s arrival would mean next. BBC and the Guardian focus on the pressure it could place on Cody Gakpo, who has drawn interest from Tottenham and Manchester City, while noting Liverpool still seek a specialist right winger.¹ Other reports argue Barcola may be only one part of a broader late-window overhaul, with Ismaila Sarr, Yankuba Minteh and Ibrahim Mbaye among the names linked as Liverpool look to add further depth in attack.³

PSG sporting director Luis Campos has left the door open, saying of Barcola and Mbaye: “We will see what will happen,” while stressing that the transfer window “is not over at all.”⁵
