Reports across the political spectrum agree on the central facts: two men died after falling into a farm tank in Cheshire, and police are investigating. Their coverage differs mainly in terminology and in how much context it gives about the agricultural equipment.

Emergency crews were called to a farm on Cann Lane in Aston by Budworth, near Northwich, at about 12.20pm on Wednesday 26 August. The men, aged 42 and 72, were recovered from the tank but pronounced dead at the scene.

One account described the vessel as an “industrial silage tank”, while also reproducing a police statement referring to an “industrial slurry tank”. Cheshire Police said officers, firefighters and ambulance staff attended an industrial incident and that an investigation was under way “to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”¹

The difference is one of description rather than the reported sequence of events. Another report called it a silage tank and explained that silage is fermented crop material stored for livestock feed, adding practical context absent from the more concise accounts.² A third report likewise used “silage tank” in its account, but focused on the emergency response, saying crews found the men after being called to the farm.³

All accounts said the men were rescued by emergency services despite efforts to save them. Police said next of kin had been informed and that the family had requested privacy while inquiries continue.¹ Cann Lane was closed as emergency teams responded, according to the reports.³
