The AA reported the collision involved two lorries and a van, with congestion stretching back to junction 18 at Chorleywood. Recovery work was carried out at the scene, with motorists warned to expect long delays while the lanes remained closed.

All lanes subsequently re-opened with residual delays of 35 mins.
